My journey to fitness. CrossFit Day 2

So, after a very productive introductory session on monday I was back at the gym today for session 2 to prepare for the Cross Fit class.  Surprisingly enough, after being away from the gym for so long, my legs and back were not sore at all from monday’s session. My chest however, was a bit sore, specially if I took a breath, but I wasn’t going to let a bit of soreness to keep me away from reaching my goals. Today Pepe took me through the proper motions for Front Squats, Push Press, Split Press and a sort of chin-up the name of which I cannot recall.  As I had said before, I have had enough experience with olympic weight lifting to learn pick up the movements once again.  After a few reps with the supervision of a personal trainer and some of his tips I was starting to get a hang of it again.  The same cannot be said about the chin-ups though. Alright, here comes the time to be honest.  My name is Raul and I cannot do chin-ups.  There, I said it.  Using the regular up and down technique that I have seen other people use I can only get maybe 3 chin-ups on a day when I feel particularly light.  I must confess that it is quite embarrassing to see me trying to do a regular chin-up.  So much so that I prefer to avoid them altogether.  Today was different though.  When Pepe said we were going to do chin-ups I thought he was going to burst a tripe laughing at my terrible form and much more terrible number of reps.  “I really can’t do them” I said to Pepe, hoping he would put me in a pull down machine instead.  He had other plans though. I had seen the technique that Pepe showed me, but had never tried it before.  In all honesty, I thought it looked harder than the regular up and down system so I stayed away from it.  Well, Pepe was set on teaching me this new technique and off to the bar we went.  There I was.  Standing below the bar and convinced in my head that I would not be able to do more than 3 reps if my life depended on it.  I was wrong.  The swinging and leg kicking motion that Pepe showed me actually made it easier for me to do them.  It took me several tries to get the feel for the movement, but once I got a hang of it I was able to do 8 reps in a row. Two sessions to go and my first class on monday. Six-pack still absolutely nowhere to be seen but getting motivated. Talk soon RAUL
